Everyone who makes a wood stove himself modifies construction and regards sharing his information with fellows as a sacred trust. I am not an exception, so I will share this information, as well!
I really likes this construction that reminds of a mess tin. I was itching to make it and started to act.
I found a pot on a market. Purchased one made of aluminum, as an experiment. Removed its handles and its bottom, cut it and got a stripe of required size. Cut it across the pattern, bent and attached the bottom. I have cut bottom out from a piece of aluminum I had. The bottom from the pot won’t fit – it’s too small. But if you take a pot of a bigger diameter, it will be enough. In the result, I had such an object.
Advantages. Light, easy to drill, cut and polish. Cheap.
Drawbacks. Being 1-1.5 mm thick, the construction is a bit too soft. It can be literally crushed by hands. I don’t know for how long it can resist fire. I only used it several times. Used it to make tea. No traces of deformation or melting, it only blackened with smoke.
By the way, when I my home was cut out of gas, I put the pot on the stove and placed two heat tabs inside. Put a frying pan on it and cooked omelet easily. After that, I used one more heat tab to make coffee.
Then I bought a metal sheet 1 mm thick, cut it with angle grinder and made several heaters slightly changing the construction. The main difference between the last and the present variants is closed-up circle and a bigger opening for the fireplace. That’s what I got.
Advantages: More rigid construction that stands firmly and won’t burn through in the nearest 100 years. Solid.
Disadvantages: Heavy and difficult to drill.
The heater should be installed on stones or raw branches/beams.
Initially, I wanted to make heater from zinc plating 0,3 mm thick. This time, I made everything differently. Draw pattern on thick paper. Cut the bottom and glued it together. After that, I transferred it on the plating, cut it and drilled. Finally, I fixed everything with rivets.
Modifications. I drilled openings on the upper part, slightly extended the opening for fireplace, reduced the diameter.
Advantages: Light. Can be done within 2-3 hours with the help of simple instruments. Compact – fits well with the pot. Does not rattle or swing. Keeps the form when heated. Stands still when being used.
Disadvantages: Thin metal. I don’t know how long it will last. If it will be enough for one season, it is worth all the work.
The heater passed the test successfully. Images are appled.
Probably, someone would like to create such wood stove. I will share the drawing.
A few words about transportation of the pot
Overall loaded weight of the pot is about 1 kg, maybe even less. I made the case myself.
I tried different constructions but finally resolved on a simple bag with ties. It is more convenient for me. The contents of the pot are shown on the photo below.
